One family house, Abcoude, the Netherlands

Located in Amsterdam residential suburbs, along the Angstel canal, the existing
house lacked strong relationship with the plot. Extending it allowed to strengthen these links, without fundamentally changing the initial functioning of spaces. The kitchen was widened and
became the transition between existing and the new intimate space, almost invisible from the rest of the house. This new reading room is a contemplation space to the garden without being watched
upon by neighbours.
The project investigates the subtle relationship inside-outside. With no vertical fixed sash in the angle, the reading room and the garden become one.
The outside paving partly runs in the inside as well, and large zenith openings bring direct sunlight and frame the celebrated Dutch sky. The open brickwall acts as a protecting
curtain.
